Choosing one’s Commitments

What should be the basis of choosing one’s commitments in the context of Christianity?

Choosing one’s Commitments - Isaiah 40.31
They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40.31, ESV)

Should it suffice that a person we respect has invited us to commit ourself to a cause, to a specific course of action in favour of a cause, or to join a group that embraces that cause? Do we not above all base such choices on our commitment to follow God’s leadership. Sometimes He will proceed through regular human means to point us out in a direction, but the simple fact that a need is present and that we are able to fill it is not sufficient.

Once the decision has been taken to commit one’s life to Christ, it is necessary at some point to choose the areas or activities that will become the object of this commitment, which will require a personal investment of our talents, gifts, time and resources.

This also implies choosing our allies, that is to say, those persons or organizations with whom we will participate in the materialization of our common cause: contributing to the forwarding ahead of the Gospel of Jesus Christ around us and throughout the world.

Here is the gist of what this page tries to accomplish. First, it provides an idea of Christian organizations, groups or Churches I have collaborated with in the past and which have maintained my deepest respect to the present.  Second, it shows where my current allegiances are lying in terms of  local Church and Church partnerships. It then presents some leading principles I consider as general basis for choosing commitment, and  explores a few areas of commitment that seem in line with these principles.
